Kuwait Airways sticks to transparency in transactions: Chairman ‘Airbus deal caps fervent efforts by board of directors, KAC staff’

KUWAIT CITY, March 2, (KUNA): Kuwait Airways always holds fast to transparency and clarity when it concludes deals for purchasing or leasing planes from Airbus, Kuwait’s national airline Chairman and Managing Director Rasha Al-Roumi said here on Sunday. The national carrier had recently hammered out a final agreement with plane-maker Airbus to purchase 25 planes and lease 12 others.

The purchased aircraft are of two kinds, A350-900 and medium-haul A320neo, while the leased ones are of A330 and A320. The deal, which was concluded between the carrier and Airbus on February 19, has capped fervent efforts by the board of directors and all the staff of Kuwait Airways Corporation (KAC), Al-Roumi told a news conference.
All state agencies and bodies, together with senior officials, primarily His Highness the Prime Minister, closely monitor any transaction hammered out by the national airline, she said. “The negotiations with Airbus for the purchase of 25 new A320neo and A350 planes and the leasing of 12 A330 and A320 aircraft were made in several stages and rounds that lasted for around two months,” she said.
The deal was even clinched without using the help of any broker, thus evading the payment of commissions, Al-Roumi pointed out. Furthermore, Kuwait Airways has capitalized on the International Air Transport Association (IATA), together with the national carrier’s experts, to work out an ambitious and economic operational and strategic blueprint to ensure effective operation and future expansions, she added.
