Emiratis cancel Kuwait National Day celebrations Carried all necessary organizational procedures: KSNU

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 28: The UAE branch of Kuwait Students National Union (KSNU) declared that the Emirati governmental authorities has canceled the union’s celebration of the Kuwaiti National Day, which was scheduled to be held at a hotel in Dubai under the patronage of Kuwait’s State Minister for Youth Affairs. It insisted that it carried out all necessary organizational procedures through the Kuwaiti Consulate and Ministry of Higher Education.
Through its account on Twitter social networking site, the union urged the Vice President of UAE and Governor of Dubai Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al-Maktoum to study the issue and allow the celebration to be held.
The union revealed that it had completed all preparations and bookings for the participants from Kuwait, explaining that it received a telephone call from the hotel administration on Tuesday evening about the celebration being suspended based on a letter from some governmental authorities, which the hotel administration refused to identify.
Meanwhile, a reliable source from the State Ministry for Youth Affairs said the probable reason for the cancellation is failure to obtain an official license from the concerned Emirati authorities to hold the celebration.

He explained, “The celebration was not being held under the patronage of Minister Sheikh Salman Al-Humoud. However, even though the ministry used to sponsor such national activities for the youth, it does not interfere in issues related to licenses”.
He added the Kuwaiti Consulate in Dubai affirmed that the licensing of the event is in the hands of the governmental authorities in UAE.
Meanwhile, a brochure released by Kuwait Students National Union through its Twitter account indicated that the guests of the celebratory event include the Assistant Undersecretary for Public Security Affairs at the Ministry of Interior Major General Mahmoud Al-Dousari, goalkeeper of the Kuwaiti national football team Nawaf Al-Khalidi and media practitioner Barakat Al-Waqyan among others.
