Pay ex-wife KD 22,000: court

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 18: The Court of First Instance ordered a man to pay KD 200,000 to his ex-wife. The case file indicated the plaintiff ended marriage to her husband of 21 years due to domestic problems and family conflict, and they divorced finally in 2005 after the defendant took the plaintiff’s money using illegal channels, but the woman couldn’t obtain any document to prove it. Plaintiff Attorney Duaij Al-Jassem argued in court and asked for referral of the case to Experts Department, which eventually proved that the plaintiff had actually paid KD 295,963 to the defendant, and the latter did not deny it.

Case adjourned: The Criminal Court presided over by Judge Yousef Al- Lahdan adjourned to April 15 the case in which five citizens are accused of setting fire to the electoral headquarters of Mohammed Al-Juwaihel in Al- Adailiya. The suspects face five counts of charges-setting fire to private property, damaging property, using force and murder threats against policemen in the course of their duties, and attacking public employees while performing their duty. Defense of Al-Juwaihel had asked the court to oblige the suspect to compensate his client temporarily.

Ruling revoked: The Court of Appeals revoked the ruling of the Court of First Instance that sentenced a Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor employee to two years imprisonment with hard labor and immediate execution for falsifying an official document. This led to the acquittal of the employee. Reportedly, the accused was charged with falsifying a work permit issued by the Hawally Labor Department to an expatriate by deleting the data of the concerned person from the computer to make it appear that the department had cancelled the permit. The defendant’s lawyer, Attorney Ali Al-Asfoor, attended the session and denied the possibility of his client committing a crime mentioned in Article 257 of the Penal Code. He demanded for the acquittal of his client due to lack of incriminating evidence.
