Dissolution of eight committees ordered PAHW budget under strain

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 14: State Minister for Housing Affairs Yasir Abul issued a decision to nullify eight committees due to the cumbersome cost of maintaining them; thereby, affecting the budget of the Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW), reports Al- Anba daily quoting a reliable source. The source said the minister is not comfortable with the idea that the chairpersons and members of the committees receive huge participation allowances for the assignments. He added the minister also discovered some members of three committees are not experts in the aspects of their assignments, while many of them are part of more than one committee.

He clarified the minister did not abolish the committees outrightly, so he instructed the director general of the authority and his team to look into their roles in handling documents concerning the committees in line with their fields of expertise. He said the minister had also instructed the senior officials to present detailed monthly reports concerning all assignments and how far they have gone about accomplishing them. The minister wants the officials to present recommendations for solving problems in all sectors to improve the work procedures, the source disclosed. According to the source, some of the nullified committees were in charge of petitions or complaints from contractors and consultancy offices.

Others were in charge of the housing plan consultancy works and follow-up of Abdullah Al-Mubarak West and Metla’a projects. He revealed the committees had 80 members whose allowances amounted to about KD200,000 monthly or KD2.4 million annually; hence, the authority will save an enormous amount henceforth.
