Closure of ‘towers’ extended to 2 years Maintenance works on fire alarm system to last for 3 months

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 13: The closure of Kuwait Towers, in response to the request of the Ministry of Electricity and Water in May 2012 to carry out maintenance works for three months, has been extended to two years due to certain issues with the contractor and the involvement of the ministry in some judiciary cases, reports Al- Seyassah daily quoting sources from the Touristic Enterprises Company (TEC).

Sources disclosed the company recently received an official letter from the ministry stating the towers will be handed over to the company in 2018. Meanwhile, sources denied rumors that there are fissures in the cement structure of the towers.

They affirmed the ministry is merely carrying out maintenance works in the towers and there is no truth to such allegations. On the other hand, sources from the ministry revealed that the maintenance works on the fire alarm system in the towers will last for three months. Sources said the Kuwait Fire Services Directorate made the request after examining the system when fire broke out in the towers.

Sources added the maintenance is delayed due to the involvement of the ministry in some judiciary issues with the contractor who failed in the implementation of the project. Sources confirmed the towers will be delivered to the company once the maintenance works are completed
