‘Turaiji’s statement on Iraqi citizenship must be probed’ Present information, docus to authorities: Saleh

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 4: MP Jamal Al-Omar considers the statement made recently by MP Dr Abdullah Al-Turaiji that he allegedly possesses documents proving some Kuwaitis and Bedouns have renewed their Iraqi citizenship although they hold the Kuwaiti nationality a dangerous issue, which must be discussed in the Parliament, reports Al-Rai daily. In a press statement, Al-Omar stressed the need to tackle the issue through an interpellation request or by forming a parliamentary investigation committee.

He affirmed his trust in the speech of Al-Turaiji who declared openly that he has official documents to support his claim. On the other hand, MP Faisal Al- Shaye emphasized the importance of applying the law in this regard and to withdraw the Kuwaiti citizenship of those who hold dual nationalities. He pointed out the law prohibits a naturalized citizen from obtaining another nationality.

He then urged the government to look into files in the Central System for Remedying the Status of Illegal Residents (CSRSIR).

Meanwhile, Parliament Secretary MP Yacoub Al-Sane asserted they trust CSRSIR Chairman Saleh Al-Fadhalah because he laid down the regulations for granting citizenship to deserving applicants.

Furthermore, MP Khalil Al-Saleh said Al-Turaiji must present the information and documents to the concerned authorities to take the legal procedures. He appealed to others who might have such documents in their possession to heed his advice. Rapporteur of parliamentary Interior and Defense Committee Sultan Al-Shimmari added there is no plan to stop the naturalization of deserving applicants. “We are about to finalize evaluation of files and the procedures for granting citizenship to those who deserve it,” he concluded.
