Women Sports tourney kicks off in Sharjah

The Second Arab Women Sports Tournament (AWST) kicked off Sunday with a large Kuwaiti and Arab participation. During the inaugural speech, Chairwoman of Sharjah Ladies Club and Supreme Council for Family Affairs Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammad Al Qasimi welcomed the clubs and athletes competing in the tournament and wished them great success.

The opening ceremony was also attended by Head of Kuwait’s delegation to the event, President of the Kuwait Association for the Ideal Family and Chairperson of Al-Fatat Sport Club Sheikha Fareeha Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. A larger number of female Kuwaiti athletes from Al-Fatat Club are participating in the Second Arab Women’s Sports Championship.

Running from Feb 2 to 12, AWST 2014 will see 900 female athletes from 15 Arab countries competing in seven games, including basketball, volleyball, table tennis, fencing, archery, shooting, and athletics. The Kuwaitis will take part in all the games, except for archery. (KUNA)
