Double your efforts to nab drug traffickers – minister Top MoI officials laud securitymen

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 28: Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khalid extended his appreciation for the tremendous efforts exerted by securitymen to control the phenomenon of smuggling of illicit drugs that jeopardize the lives of the youths. According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Interior, the minister issued this statement on Tuesday in the presence of the Undersecretary of Ministry of Interior Lt General Sulaiman Al-Fahad, Assistant Undersecretary for Criminal Security Affairs Major General Abdulhameed Al-Awadhi, Acting Director of Directorate General for Drug Control Brigadier Saleh Al-Ghannam and a number of other top officers.

Sheikh Al-Khalid conveyed greetings from the higher political leadership represented by HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad, HH the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad and HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al- Mubarak to the attendees. He said, “Even though we are happy about confiscating such large quantities of drugs, we are worried about the fact that our country is being targeted for such activities. Therefore, we have to double our efforts and enhance collaboration with other governmental authorities, public utilities societies, private sector and the entire society to eliminate the dangers of drug use”. He further extended his appreciation to the Directorate General for Drug Control (DGDC) for their efforts in confiscating nearly 370 kilograms of hashish and opium recently. He explained that DGDC solved 1,234 drug-related cases, arrested 1,675 individuals out of which 132 were deported and registered 241 complaints of drug addiction in the last six months. Meanwhile, the Undersecretary of Ministry of Interior Lt General Sulaiman Al-Fahad extended his gratitude and appreciation to the Minister of Interior and all top security officials, assuring endless support from the ministry to the securitymen. Meanwhile, Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khalid followed up the most advanced drug smuggling technique in the recent incident wherein 11,000 narcotic pills were smuggled inside 12 shisha tubes (narghile), with each tube containing 700 pills.

The minister was accompanied by Interior Ministry Undersecretary Lieutenant General Suleiman Al-Fahad, Assistant Undersecretary for Criminal Security Affairs Major General Abdulhamid Al-Awadhi, and Acting Director General of Drug Control General Department Brigadier Saleh Al-Ghanam. Briefing Sheikh Mohammad, Brigadier Al- Ghanam said the department was tipped-off about a gang of three Arab nationals trafficking in narcotics and legal measures were taken to arrest the suspects after undercover agents placed them on surveillance for a while. Guarded by search and arrest warrant, security operatives raided the suspects’ den and found the contraband carefully hidden inside 12 hookah covers. The suspects claimed ownership of the items. Sheikh Mohamed commended the efforts of Drug Control General Department for the find.
