Department steps up infection prevention policies: Al-Mussa Govt in principle OKs list of benefits

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 26: The Infection Prevention and Sterilization Department has taken all the necessary precautionary measures to prevent the spread of corona virus, reports Al-Rai daily quoting Director of the department Dr Haifa Al-Mussa.

Al-Mussa disclosed one of the steps taken is the strict application of infection prevention policies in hospitals, adding that hepatitis and AIDS are the two most dangerous diseases which can be transmitted through endoscopes in case they are not sterilized. She said the Central Sterilization Center is working continuously on dealing with virus and microbes electronically.

She explained the sterilization of the room to eliminate any microbe occurs before receiving a new patient; and in case of finding imbalance in the process of sterilizing the surgical tools, there will be complete re-programming of the treatment procedure. She went on to say that the centre will soon receive 10 new devices for environmental cleansing in hospitals, which are the first of their kind in the GCC countries.

Meanwhile, she warned against the frequent use of antibiotics; since it may allow the virus to develop antibodies, which can make them useless. She also advised the public not to use concentrated disinfectants in houses as it is preferable to use hot water and soap to eliminate virus and bacteria
