Tires go up in flames in junkyard blaze

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 23: A huge fire engulfed number of used tires stored in Abdullah Port Scrapyard, spreading over an area of 3,500 square meters. No casualties or injuries were reported. According to security sources, when the Control Room of Kuwait Fire Service Directorate received information about heavy smoke billowing from the Abdullah Port Scrapyard, firefighters rushed to the location and discovered that the fire was spread over an area of 3,500 square meters. Firefighters from five fire stations managed to extinguish the fire after exerting efforts for seven hours with the participation of officers from Ministry of Interior and Kuwait Municipality, and paramedics.

Deputy Director General of Firefighting Affairs and Human Resources Development Affairs Brigadier Khalid Al-Mekrad was present at the location. He said the fire was controlled within two hours with the help of God Almighty and efforts of the firefighters and other officers. Ahmadi Fire Director Colonel Tariq Al-Menais was also present at the location and he said the fire was controlled due to tremendous efforts exerted by the firefighters with the help of Kuwait Municipality. Investigations have been launched to determine the cause of the fire
