‘Defective goods put on sale to be confiscated’ MoCI sets up new rules

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 23: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has specified a new regulation on the confiscation of defective products and goods from the market, reports Al- Rai daily. Indicating that all companies must remove defective goods from the market within a month at the latest, Director of the Consumer Protection Administration Mansoor Al-Nuzhan disclosed the ministry met with the representatives of the concerned companies and notified them that in case of finding deficiencies in their goods or products, or if the goods do not conform with the standards, the agent of the company should make an official announcement in two newspapers to recall the defective products in less than a month. He added the concerned company should also provide the ministry with periodical reports after opening a file on issue, while bearing all the expenses in this regard.

In a related development, Al-Nuzhan said the Ministry of Commerce recently ordered the pull out of 67 advertisements due to violations related to foreign real estate trading. He revealed most of the violations were found in Arab countries and some have been referred to the Public Prosecution. He added the Consumer Protection Administration has coordinated with the Cooperative Societies Union to monitor the items sold in cooperatives. He said the union has been asked to submit to the ministry the list of the actual prices of products, which will be included in sale promotions before launching such events. Meanwhile, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and State Minister for Planning Affairs Hind Al- Subaih will soon refer decisions on supervisory functions taken by the Employees Affairs Committee, which was formed by her predecessor, to the Civil Service Commission (CSC) to establish the credibility of the committee and ensure the legality of its decisions to be fair with the complainants, reports Al- Seyassah daily quoting sources. In another development, Chairperson of the Workers Union at the ministry Yahya Al-Dosari confirmed the minister is keen on restoring powers of ministry officials.
