‘No Israeli goods sold in co-ops’ Indian bootlegger arrested

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 21: The Chairman of the Union of Cooperative Societies Abdulaziz Al-Samhan has denied reports which said Israeli goods are sold in cooperative societies, reports Al-Seyassah daily. Al-Samhan noted this issue is a red line and cannot be crossed under any circumstances. He added it is regretting that someone has spread the rumors that Israeli potatoes were sold at the Naseem Cooperative Society with a label on sacks ‘Made in Israel’. In a press statement the official pointed out the General Department of Customs has denied these reports. The statement said the potatoes are in fact from the Kingdom of Jordan.

Worker killed: An unidentified worker died on the spot following a tragic road accident on the Airport Road, reports Al- Watan Arabic daily. According to eyewitness reports the victim’s body was ‘torn’ to pieces after he was run over by an unidentified motorist. The corpse of the worker has been referred to Forensics. The daily did not say if the motorist has been arrested or not.

Bootlegger held: Police from the Capital Governorate have arrested an unidentified Indian man for trafficking in local alcohol, reports Al-Anba daily. The trafficker was arrested in Bneid Al-Gar in possession of 36 bottles of local booze.

Asleep on drugs: Police have arrested a Kuwaiti for possessing and consuming drugs, reports Al-Rai daily. According to security sources the man was caught fast asleep inside his car which was parked in a suspicious manner in a suburb of Sabah Al-Salem. When the police woke the man up, he reportedly was under the influence of drugs and broke the glass of the police vehicle. Police have seized from him 14 fingers of hashish and drug consuming tools.

Shepherd injured: A 39-year-old Indian shepherd who accidentally stepped on a land mine, believed to be a remnant of the Kuwait-Iraq war (when the Iraqis were driven out of the country in Kuwait’s 1991 liberation war) was injured in both legs and ear, reports Al- Rai daily.was injured in the right foot and left foot and ear. The incident happened in Ritqa. The shepherd has been admitted to a hospital.

Cash stolen: Police are looking for an unidentified person for stealing KD 1,150 from a cafÈ in Salmiya, reports Al-Anba daily. Personnel from the Criminal Evidences Department lifted have fingerprints to identify the culprits.
