Municipality accused of wasting public money ‘Qurain Markets’ a heavy burden on state budget

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 21: The Municipality Council has accused the Kuwait Municipality of wasting public money in Qurain Commercial Markets, indicating the structure is a heavy burden on the State budget without a legal term despite the issuance of judiciary verdicts for the benefit of investors, reports Al-Rai daily.

Council member Mane’Al-Ajmi disclosed the Financial and Legal Affairs Committee has referred to the executive body the demand submitted by a group of owners and renters of West Abu Fatira plots (Qurain Markets) to explain the decision of the council regarding the renewal of licenses for the shops.

He said the council previously formed a fact-finding committee but the Legal Administration did not cooperate as it failed to provide any information to clarify the issue. He pointed out the investors won many cases filed against the Municipality; claiming the director general took an incomplete decision in this regard as it asked the Municipality to identify who is behind the problem but allowed it to lose in several cases.
