Kuwaitis rank 3rd in the world in water usage

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 12: Kuwaitis were ranked 3rd in the World Report on Water Consumption with a daily consumption of about 450 liters per person, reports Al-Rai daily quoting Assistant Undersecretary for Water Maintenance and Operations at the Ministry of Electricity and Water Eng Mohammad Bu Shahri. According to the report, the average daily water consumption of a Kuwaiti is double that of a citizen in Europe; even if Kuwait is one of the countries with poor water resources. On the water conservation campaign in 2013, Bu Shahri asserted the campaign was a success as the ministry saved KD 55 million.

He also attributed the savings to the implementation of the water rationing policy, considering the four percent decline in the projected annual consumption rate. He pointed out that if a consumer saves one gallon of water a day, the ministry will save 3.5 million imperial gallons daily valued at KD 12 million a year. Asked about the alleged loss of water from the reserve, Bu Shahri asserted this is an international issue as several consumers use water illegally while others do not pay their bills.
