Ethiopian Maid in suicide bid - ‘Better to die’

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 5: An Ethiopian housemaid tried to commit suicide by throwing herself in front of a vehicle in Taima. A group of passersby managed to hold the woman and prevented her from taking her own life. She was crying profusely saying that she no longer wants to live and it is better for her to die. Some of the passersby called the Operations Room at the Ministry of Interior, which dispatched securitymen and paramedics to the location.

The housemaid was taken to a nearby police station for questioning. During interrogation, the housemaid revealed the identity of her sponsor who was summoned to the station. Investigations are still ongoing to determine the actual circumstances that prompted the maid to try to commit suicide.

Ex-candidate in double suicide bid: An unidentified Kuwaiti and former candidate for the parliamentary elections allegedly attempted to end his life two times while in custody of the Salmiya police, reports Al-Rai daily. The daily added he was arrested for impersonating police after a complaint filed by an Indian and two Egyptians. According to security sources the suspect was inside a café in Salmiya and claimed to be a police officer. He beat the three suspects, put them in his car and drove them to the Salmiya Police Station and realizing that he had violated the law, returned them to the café following which the victims filed a complaint with the police. The suspect has been handed over to the Mubarak Al-Kabir Police Station with an additional charge of attempted suicide.

Meanwhile, police have arrested an Indian man for driving under the influence of alcohol and endangering the lives of other motorists and pedestrians, reports Al-Shahed daily. The daily added the suspect was driving a Jeep and allegedly collided with two other vehicles — one driven by a Kuwaiti and the other by an Asian. The drunkard has been referred to the authorities.
