The starting point of the Qatar int’l Enduro race
Balooshi, Kuwait’s Jaffar rule opening round Qatar International Enduro Race 2014

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 4: The rumble on the desert is on. UAE’s Mohammed Balooshi and Mohammed Jaffar from Kuwait shared the glory in opening round of the Qatar International Enduro Race2014 topping their respective categories in the Qatar Motor & Motorcycle Federation-QMMF organized event that took place at the Qatar Sealine circuit with 27 riders from across the globe participating under the aegis of the International Motorcycle Federation (FIM). Eleven of the riders on the start list were Kuwaiti drawn from the country’s array of motorsport clubs.  The opener of the one-day two-race event saw the Emirati rider Al Balooshi who competes in the E2 category clinch the top spot in the E2 category. Defending champion of his category, Al Balooshi led the race from the beginning to the checkered flag and gave no chance to his teammate, Mohammed Jaffar to overtake him. Balooshi crossed the line with a gap of 1.375 ahead of the Kuwaiti rider Jaffar who finished at the top of the E1category followed by his compatriot Abdullah Al Shatti in second place. ‘It was a good start of the year for me, winning the first race of the year in my category. The track was very nice and I enjoyed a lot’ stated Mohammed Jaffar after the first race.

The podium ceremony of the E1 was 100% Kuwaiti, with Mohammed Jaffar in first place and Abdullah Al Shatti and Tariq Al Hattab in second and third place respectively. Saeed Al Shenqiti from UAE and Moath Al Ansari from Kuwait were second and third respectively in the podium of E2 with Mohammed Al Balooshi in the top step. The French rider Anthony Claude was the first quad to cross the line. In the second race, Balooshi made a great start and won from the start until the end with an excellent pace. This time, the gap between him and Mohammed Jaffar was bigger, 8.796. The competition in the second moto was very tough between Balooshi and his teammates. In the first part of the race, Balooshi had the pressure of the Emirate rider Saeed Al Shenquiti and later the pressure came from Mohammed Jaffar.

In the E1 podium ceremony, the first and second places were again for Mohammed Jaffar and Abdullah Al Shatti as in race 1 respectively. The third place was for Barak Al Jasmi also from Kuwait. The podium for E2 category was exactly the same as in race 1: Balooshi, Al Shenqiti and Al Ansari.
It was a very tough race, harder than in moto 1. In the moto 2, I was really tired to go in, but once I had the start I managed it. First I had pressure from Saeed for two laps and in the last four laps it was Mohammed Jaffar who pushed.  I was really exhausted by the end but I was happy to keep the lead and for me it is a nice felling to finish the day leading the championship, like this is always a good feeling’ Balooshi said after the two wins.

‘This was one of the toughest races I had ever had here in Qatar. It was a very nice competition with my coach Balooshi. We have been working together for the last the last three weeks, preparing for this and we can say that this is the result of the hard work and hope to keep it for the future rounds’ Mohammed Jaffar said after the second race. Anthony Claude was again the first quad to cross the line.
Nasser Khalifa Al Attiya, QMMF President, thanked to all the teams and riders for their participation in the opening round of the third season of the Qatar International Enduro. ‘It is great to see that the competition in every race is harder between the riders, so the level of this championship is higher after each round. Hope that more participants will join us in the subsequent rounds’ the QMMF President who also doubles as FIA Vice President noted. The riders will again be back on the circuit February 7, 2014 for the second round race.

For his part, Hamad Al Saif, an official of the Kuwait Quarter Mile Auto & Motorcycle Club- Kuwait’s leading motorsport club and a member of the club’s racing contingent to the event, noted that the fact that all three winners of the E1 category as well as one from E2 belong to the Quarter Mile Club is enough testimony to the quality of its leadership presided over by Sheikh Ali Fawaz AlSabah with Sheikh Athbi Nayef AlSabah as Chairman. He added that the club had one of the best riding teams assembled for the event who have proven their ability by ensuring the flag of Kuwait was clearly visible all over the podium. Four of the podium positions in both categories were Kuwaiti riders of the Quarter Mile Club.
The Quarter Mile Club official also paid glowing tribute to the QMMF President Mr. Nasser Khalifa Al Attiya for the flawless manner of the organization of the event, saying that “The recent election of Attiya as world motorsports governing body FIA vice president was the right thing to do and I congratulate him on winning that position”
