Call to shut hospital ICU of IDH received only 51 cases in ’13

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 3: The Intensive Care Unit of the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH) last year received only 51 cases, while the intensive care units of other hospitals in the country are said to have received between three and four thousand cases, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

This has forced some people to demand shutting down this hospital and opening epidemic diseases departments in other hospitals. Sources say this proposition has the blessing of many patients especially since the hospitals are dealing with epidemic cases and transfer them to the Contagious Diseases Hospital when the patients reach a critical stage.

Meanwhile, it is said the Intensive Care Unit in this hospital is facing shortage of medical staff, although it has been equipped with the highest state-of-the-art equipment at a cost of KD1.7 million. It has also been reported that patients suffering from hepatitis or AIDS are also suffering from other diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure and there are no doctors on hand to examine them at this hospital.
