Medical ‘certs’ said stolen from Municipality branches Council members to be probed secretly

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 2: Some Kuwait Municipality branches have discovered the robbery of a large number of new medical certificates, which were given to shop owners who want to obtain licenses for their establishments, reports Al-Shahed daily quoting sources. Sources confirmed the officials are aware of the anomalous act but they concealed the information until the completion of investigations to identify the people behind it.

Sources said some employees at the Municipality are suspected of involvement in the anomaly. Sources added it is easy to falsify the stamps affixed to the certificates. Sources disclosed investigations are ongoing to arrest all those involved in the scam, wondering about the absence of surveillance cameras in the areas where the robberies took place; thereby, raising suspicions that the act was carried out even during working hours. In an unrelated developments, a committee has been formed to conduct investigations secretly in order to determine who among the Kuwait Municipality Council members own contracting companies, reports Al- Rai daily quoting sources. Disclosing the step was taken after some officials at the council were asked to present their financial disclosure statements, sources pointed out the council members might not accept the abovementioned decision because most of them are engaged in private commercial activities.

Meanwhile, council member Fahad Al-Sanei has expressed his readiness to submit his financial disclosure statement in case he will be asked to do so. He and his colleague, Abdullah Al-Kandari, affirmed there is no problem in asking the council members to reveal their assets and liabilities as this is part of the legal procedures.
