Four youths take officer hostage until friend’s release Culprits arrested after standoff

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 31: Four Bedoun youths detained an officer of the rank of first lieutenant inside a diwaniya at Sulaibiya after their friend was arrested for stealing a vehicle from the parking lot of Sulaibiya Clinic. Security sources said two officers of the rank of first lieutenant apprehended a Bedoun youth for driving away with a vehicle from the parking lot of Sulaibiya Clinic, but the officers were taken aback when suddenly three youths holding sharp objects came out of the house where the suspect had been arrested, and attacked them near the diwaniya of the house. In an attempt to maintain order, the first officer fired warning shots, but the first and second youths managed to seize the gun and detained the other officer inside the diwaniya, demanding immediate release of the suspect.

They only freed the officer after their friend had been released. Meanwhile, the owner of a neighboring diwaniya had notified the Operations Room of the Interior Ministry about a shooting in the area in which a police officer had been injured. Acting on information, security operatives rushed to the area and blocked the entrances and exits to the scene. The injured officer who had bruises all over the body and a fracture in the hand was sent to a hospital for treatment. All four suspects were referred to the concerned authority for necessary action.
