Terminated from Job - Company will cancel Visa; Cant repay the Bank loan

I have been terminated and the company will cancel my visa because I want to go back home. But my indemnity is not enough to pay for either my credit card or the bank loan. Will I be sent to jail?

Name withheld

Answer: You will not be immediately sent to jail although the possibility of such an action is there on the long time. First you will approached by the bank and asked to pay back the loans. You will then be given a certain amount of time to clear your dues. In the meantime, you will most likely face a travel ban so you can’t leave the country without paying back what you owe to the bank. If you don’t pay back the loan within the given time, the bank will take you to court which could then send you to prison or before that most likely the court will again give you a certain amount of time to pay back the loans. It is only then — if you still can’t pay back the loans — will you be sent to jail. But before this happens, if you are facing a real monetary crisis, you could approach one of the many charity organizations in the country which normally come to the rescue of people in such cases. Please remember that even if you are sent to jail, you will be released immediately on payment of the dues — either through one of the charities or any of your friends.
