Al-Habib decries MoCI’s egg price hike ‘Decision to trigger price increase on several food items’

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 29: Vice- Board Chairman of Yarmouk Cooperative Society Khaled Al- Habib is unhappy with the recent decision of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to increase the prices of eggs by five percent without giving consumers breathing space, following the previous hike about four months ago, reports Al-Anba daily. Al-Habib declared that the decision will trigger prices hike on several other Kuwaiti food commodities, while consumers become the ultimate victims. He wondered how the ministry will approve the raise without justification, considering its position as the authority that should stand firm against artificial hikes by traders.

He said the ministry has become a stumbling block to the cooperative societies that are opposed to the idea of increasing prices. He noted the situation indicates that traders influence the decisions of the ministry, and there is no iota of truth in the justifications for raising the prices of fodder. He also said the cooperative societies do not charge rent fees from egg traders, indicating the cosocieties pay the same price for eggs they buy from the traders just as they are sold in the vegetable market, without adding any charges.
