Kuwaiti doctor in rare achievement

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 26: Fahad Rashid Al-Mulla, a Kuwaiti doctor and professor, had a unique achievement when he worked with 30 international researchers from the biggest medical centers in the world to discover a new technique for determining if one is prone to cancer; particularly the breast, colon and uterus in order to administer appropriate treatment prior to their appearance, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily. Al-Mulla revealed he worked with an international research team to draw a map for rare mutations, which usually lead to cancer in the colon and intestines.

He explained this discovery will help in preventing the disease due to the ability to identify those prone to cancer; hence, the treatment may start as early as possible and this increases the chance of full recovery. He added that due to its significance, the results of the research were published in the best scientific magazine in the world, Nature Genetics. He said the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Science (KFAS) had volunteered to finance the colon cancer part of the research.
