New speed limits to cut rate of accidents – Al-Ali ‘Go slow, save lives’

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 26: Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic Affairs in the Ministry of Interior Major General Abdul Fatah Al- Ali recently issued an administrative decision on the speed limits as part of the ongoing efforts to lessen, if not eliminate, road accidents and to ensure smooth flow of traffic, reports Al-Anba daily.

The decision limits the speed for vehicles plying through expressways and external roads connected to highways to 120 km/h and the minimum speed is 80 km/h; while the speed limit for trucks and heavy vehicles is 80 km/h and the minimum speed is 60 km/h.

Meanwhile, the speed limit along highways, between the second and sixth ring roads, is 100 km/h with minimum speed of 80 km/h; while the limit for heavy vehicles and trucks is 60 km/h with a minimum of 45 km/h. For vehicles coursing through the roads between the first and second ring roads, the speed limit is 80 km/h with a minimum of 40 km/h.

The speed limit for vehicles on the Fifth Ring Road, starting from East Abdul Aziz Al Saood Road to Andalus intersection with West Aridiya, is 100 km/h with a minimum of 50 km/h; and for heavy vehicles and trucks, the speed limit is 60 km/h with a minimum of 40 km/h. On the First Ring Road, the speed limit for vehicles is 100 km/h with a minimum of 50 km/h; while for heavy vehicles and trucks, the speed limit is 60 km/h with a minimum of 40 km/h.

For the first to fourth ring roads, the speed limit for vehicles is 80 km/h with a minimum of 45 km/h; while for the heavy vehicles and trucks, the speed limit is 60 km/h with a minimum of 40 km/h and 60 km/h for those on the merged roads.
