Over 100 runway domestics arrested in Jahra campaign ‘No blacklist ... pay KD 25’

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 26: A police officer working at Khaitan Police Station was arrested for swindling the inmates detained in the police station by assuring that he can get them deported from the country without them being blacklisted and will assist them in returning to the country. According to security sources, the officer assured an Asian woman who was detained in Khaitan Police Station that if she paid him KD 25, he would ensure she is deported without the need for providing her fingerprint so that she can return to the country.

The woman requested her sister to provide the money. When her sister went to the police station to give the money, the Acting Head of Khaitan Police Station was confused and said he did not ask for the money. She then explained that a police officer had asked her sister to pay KD 25 to ensure she is not blacklisted and she can return to the country after being deported. The official immediately questioned the inmate and took down the description of the police officer. After identifying him, they arrested the officer and referred him to the Public Prosecution for necessary legal action to be taken against him. Sources said the Head of the Police Station reviewed the camera records to discover that the suspect talked with the inmate a number of times.

Domestics nabbed: During a security campaign the Jahra police have reportedly arrested over 100 runaway maids and servants and referred them to the concerned authorities, reports Al-Qabas daily. The daily added, most of the arrests came from Hawalli. Most of the suspects holding Article 20 residence were picked up from cafés in Hawalli. Of those arrested 70 are women and 30 men. They have been handed over to the concerned authorities.
