‘Discrimination in burials never ever’ Media cautioned

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 25: Kuwait Municipality denied rumor which says the sector has issued a decision to stop burying non- Kuwaitis at cemeteries in Kuwait, adding the issue was a mere suggestion presented by the concerned authorities while preparing the statistical data about dead people buried in the cemeteries, reports Al-Seyassah daily. In this context, the Director General of Kuwait Municipality Engineer Ahmad Al- Subaih reiterated the widespread rumor that the Municipality has issued an official decision to stop burying expatriates here is not true.

He said the suggestion was part of annual routine procedures by the Municipal departments to file the number of Kuwaiti and non- Kuwaitis buried during the year. He explained decisions of this nature will never be issued in Kuwait, “so the Municipality will continue to perform its duties without discriminating the dead, because the dead deserves honor in burial”.

He disclosed the official document leaking to the public was only an internal memo among the concerned authorities, adding that several other opinions were contained in the recommendations. He urged the media to adequately follow up and confirm information before publishing.
