Call to increase price of eggs No plan to grant financial help to anybody: ministry

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 24: Assistant Undersecretary at the Ministry of Trade Abdullah Al-Enezi has said the sector will not grant financial support to anybody, adding the ministry completely refuses aid policy that adversely affects the local economy, reports Al-Anba daily. Al-Enezi noted the ministry has no intention to include egg in the list of ration items and called for gradual increase of egg prices, indicating the cooperative societies have been asked to reduce the profit margin in order to cut down the prices of commodities.

For his part, the Chairperson of Cooperative Societies Union Abdulaziz Al-Samhan blames the Ministry of Trade for the hike in prices of egg, adding the five percent profit margin imposed by the ministry has adverse impact on the cooperative societies.

He pointed out that the ministry is not the sector’s supervisory body and has no control over the structure of cooperative societies since it provides no sort of subsidy to the sector “so, the ministry is not in the position to enforce or interfere with egg profit margin”.

Meanwhile, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Thikra Al-Rashidi has issued a decision obliging labor departments in all governorates to suspend the transactions of employers and employees until the end of December to pave way for the annual inventory, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

The decision excludes governmental contracts and complaints to prevent the suspension of governmental projects or fines paid by the concerned employees for delay, renewal or transfer of work permits
