MoH official ‘denies’ 40 percent TB claim

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 22: Ministry of Health’s Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Dr Qais Al-Duweiri has denied claim by the Green Line Group that nearly 40 percent of the Kuwaiti population suffers from tuberculosis. He stressed the information is misleading and far from reality. Earlier, the head of Green Line Group Khaled Al-Hajeri posted on his Twitter page that the group possesses documents proving the percentage of Kuwaiti population that carry the infection.

He insisted the number grew gradually from 1995 until recently when it exceeded 40 percent, and threatened to publish the document if the ministry denies it. He reiterated the group is ready to reveal the truth about cases of infection in Kuwait. He explained that micro bacterium is the source of tuberculosis, which is an age-long and chronic disease spreading through polluted air and food. The disease affects the respiratory organs and other parts of the body, including bone and backbone. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports indicate the countries in Middle East lose thousands of citizens annually due to the disease.
