Al-Turaiji sends query to finmin regarding MoU inked with Airbus Panel members submit demand over immigration violations

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 20: MP Abdullah Al-Turaiji has submitted a query to the Deputy Premier, Minister of Finance Sheikh Salem Abdulaziz Al- Sabah regarding a memorandum of understanding the Chairman of Kuwait Airways Corporation is reported to have signed with Airbus Company to purchase airplanes at the cost of over $3 billion, says Al-Rai daily. Al-Turaiji wanted to know if international consultative authorities accredited in Kuwait by Public Authority for Investment had conducted an elaborate economic feasibility study before the decision to purchase the airplanes. He also asked if the country represented by Public Authority for Investment or any other authority will guarantee banking facilities or loans for a subsidized bargain and whether there will be financial warranty if KAC is privatized.

He requested the minister to provide the list of all correspondences exchanged between KAC and Public Authority for Investment concerning the bargain plus photocopies of all decisions issued in that regard. Meanwhile, Al-Turaiji presented a proposal to name the institute for training officers in Saad Al-Abdullah Academy for Security Sciences after late Lt. Colonel Jassem Al-Qatami. He said Al-Qatami was an honest officer who spared no effort in protecting Kuwait and its security; besides honest stances he adopted to protect the Kuwaiti constitution.

In the meantime, Al-Turaiji revealed that he and the members of Parliamentary Interior and Defense Committee submitted a demand regarding the violations committed in the transactions of the General Immigration Department, which will be referred to the parliament in the coming session, reports Al-Rai daily. He explained that the demand is to grant the committee members with full authority to summon each individual involved in the issue including the witnesses and owners of the suspicious transactions for investigations. He stressed the need for tackling this case as it is related to the security of the country particularly in consideration of the current regional situation, adding that Kuwait has suffered from bitter experiences when several crimes were committed and cases were registered against unknown individuals.

MPAl-Turaiji asked the Minister of Interior Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khalid Al-Sabah to allow the committee members to know the results of the investigations conducted so far in this regard in order for them to assess the seriousness of those investigations. Meanwhile, MP Humoud Al- Hamdan urged the concerned authorities to ensure Kuwaitization is applied when recruiting for top positions and that non-Kuwaitis are not recruited for these important posts especially if it is proven that they have violated the law. In addition, MP Mohammad Al- Tana has submitted a draft law for providing the same amount of housing loan to a Kuwaiti woman married to a non-Kuwaiti as given to divorced Kuwaiti women and Kuwaiti widows. He stressed that the draft law is based on the principle of justice and equality that the Kuwaiti Constitution guarantees impartially for all citizens
