Workers have right to seek transfer of residency: MSAL Ethiopian workers, employer dispute solved

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 19: The Labor Relations Department of Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor settled the problems and conflict that broke out between some Ethiopian workers and their employer. Earlier, the Labor Relations Department received several complaints from some Ethiopian laborers against their company that refused to transfer their residencies. When the department investigated the complaints, it discovered that the laborers have the right to demand for the transfer of their residencies.

Sources from the ministry explained that the department came to an agreement with the company and laborers to settle the problem, adding that the employer agreed to transfer the residencies of the laborers after they spent three years in service as mandated by the law.

Those who have not completed this legal period will have to do so before asking for the transfer of their residencies. They must also notify the company three months in advance before completing the legal period. The company also agreed to withdraw the absconding reports it filed against its personnel while the laborers pledged to comply with the Labor Law.
