KUWAIT CITY, Dec 15: The AVC-Kuwait has recreated history by becoming the only Indian expatriate football team from Kuwait to win two international outstation tournaments by winning the 7-a- side tournament organized by Young Goans Club Bahrain for the YGC Rolling Trophy defeating another Kuwait based team Veterans United in the finals played at the floodlit Gulf Air Club grounds in Salmabad, Bahrain. The other victory was in 2005 when the AVC-Kuwait created history by becoming the first Indian expatriate football club from Kuwait to win a soccer tournament in Bahrain organized by Young Goans Club. The Four teams from Kuwait took part in a 12-team divided into two groups. AVC-Kuwait topped group ‘A’ and defeated Showstoppers Bahrain in the quarterfinals, Nuvem SC Bahrain in the semifinals and went on to clinch the Championship Trophy defeating Veterans United comfortably by a 2-0 goal margin.

The AVC-Kuwait thrilled the Bahraini fans with superb football throughout the tournament and in the finals scored the goals through Luciano and Anthony to take the flight back to Kuwait with the YGC Rolling Trophy.
Alvaro Dias, AVC’s veteran and experienced goalkeeper was awarded Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament for keeping a clean slate in the entire tournament. Vincy Pereira, AVC’s ace defender was adjudged the Man of the Tournament for his superb performance. AVC captain Kevin Vaz terrorized the opposition defense and new recruit medio Ismayil was the highest scorer with six goals and ace striker Anthony once again was at his clinical best. Luciano, Joseph and Vincy excelled in defense while Melvy, Custodio and Melvyn were at their best. Molvito, the team manager was largely responsible for the team’s strategy.

The touring AVC team consisted of Alvaro Dias, Kevin Vaz, Vincy Pereira, Ismayil Kavungal, Anthony Rodrigues, Luciano D’Souza, Joseph Quadros, Melvy Fernandes, Melvyn Fernandes, Braulio Rodrigues and Custodio Castana. The squad was accompanied by members Demino D’Cruz, Glen D’Souza, Christine D’Souza, Mira Pereira, Jawed Shaikh, Xavier Furtado and KIFF President Fidelis Fernandes. The team was also goaded by another expatriate participating team GOA Maroons throughout the tournament. This sensational win is another inspirational and proud moment for AVC-Kuwait who has the distinction of organizing outstation football tournaments in the United Arab Emirates in spite of being a local based organization and hence achieving the honor of being named as ‘International Organizers’ a tag bestowed by the Indian expatriates of UAE. In Kuwait, AVC has won all the trophies as affiliates of KIFF and are also KIFF league champions in the past and five times KIFF Season’s Champions with 2012-2013 season being the recent. In the new season AVC - Kuwait have qualified for the semifinals stage of the KIFF League in Kuwait.

Established in the year 2001 and named after the three famed villages of Goa — Assolna, Velim and Cuncolim the organization is led by selfless young professionals whose passion and sincere dedication to the game and the Indian community has made AVC-Kuwait the most envied club among the Indian expatriates.
AVC-Kuwait thank its sponsors Bridgestone Tire Distribution Co, Al Futooh International and Bhasin International, organizers Young Goans Club Bahrain, Francis Correia, Gabriel Crasto, GOA Maroons, KIFF President Fidelis Fernandes and family, players and committee members.
