MP threatens to grill finmin over foreign investments, social security MC rejects Municipality plan to amend its laws

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 15: MP Riyadh Al-Adsani has threatened to submit an interpellation request against Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance Sheikh Salem Al- Abdulaziz Al-Sabah a day before the Constitutional Court issues its verdict on the electoral appeals on Dec 23 if the minister does not take reformative steps related to foreign investments, Al-Zour station and the Public Authority for Social Security next week, reports Al-Seyassah daily. In a recent press statement, Al- Adsani accused the government of taking wrong procedures in dealing with foreign investments and social security due to the absence of a clear vision.

Commenting on the issue, member of the nullified legislature Abdulhamid Dashti believes this grilling request is appropriate. He said he will do the same thing in case he joins the Parliament again unless the minister takes the necessary steps to stop irregularities in foreign investments, Al-Zour station and the alleged corrupt activities of the director of the social security institution. In another development, sources said the tally of votes presented by the Ministry of Interior to the Constitutional Court showed that Dashti won in the last elections. Meanwhile, Adan and Qusur Cooperative Society Secretary Salem Al-Shashouh has accused the parliamentary Petitions and Complaints Committee of putting pressure on him after receiving a complaint he filed against the Ministry of Commerce and Industry for failure to apply Law Number 10/79, reports Al- Rai daily.

Al-Shashouh revealed the committee initially received his complaint but later rejected it — an act he considers a clear indication of taking a particular side at the expense of the consumers. He asserted that he has no plan to succumb to such pressures; asserting he will file the complaint again, but this time, he will submit it directly to the National Assembly speaker. He claimed the consumers are now suffering the brunt of the ministry’s negligence and its failure to enforce certain laws, adding that Law Number 10/79 stipulates the role of the ministry in regulating the prices of goods in the local market. In the meantime, the Municipal Council has outrightly rejected the plan of the Kuwait Municipality, in cooperation with the Public Facilities Committee in the Parliament, to amend its laws, reports Al-Rai daily quoting sources. Sources disclosed the committee invited the executive body of the Kuwait Municipality to its recent meeting but it ignored the council. Sources said this is the reason why the council expressed strong objection to the proposed amendment of its laws. Sources added the council will submit a complaint to the state minister for Municipality Affairs to prove that it will not tolerate any arbitrary decision taken against it.
