Interior minister says to pump young blood into his ministry Sheikh Mohammad denies rumors over ‘influence’

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 13: The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khalid Al- Sabah, after referring the Undersecretary of Ministry of Interior Lt General Ghazi Al- Omar to retirement and promoting 835 officers, affirmed that he will take necessary decisions to develop the ministry and appoint young qualified individuals. He stressed that the country’s security organization is not built based on individuals but on the interest of the nation for preserving the country’s security and stability. In a press statement, Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khalid said, “The change in the organizational structure of the ministry and the decisions that would be taken in the near future are aimed to enhance the security work’s necessities and its administration as well as technical and security needs”. “These measures have nothing to do with individuals and the decisions taken are not based on the interest of one official at the expense of the other.

Instead, they are based on the need to boost efficiency, national service standards as well as the supreme welfare of the nation”, added the minister. He explained that the security situation of the country is stable and the law will be enforced on every person who violates it.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Mohammad Al- Khalid denied the rumors about retirements and appointments carried out based on influence, stressing, “Decisions to refer an employee to retirement or appoint a qualified candidate are carried out with high level of transparency in adherence to specific standard of rules and regulations without giving in to prejudiced agendas”. Regarding the arrest of an Iranian expatriate at Kuwait International Airport while trying to flee the country with his daughter after killing his wife, the minister insisted that the security agencies are determined to arrest the violators of law and refer them to the concerned prosecution domains.

He added that such actions will serve as a deterrent to others who are planning to commit crimes against people and properties. He indicated that the ministry has taken precautionary measures to curb fights and violations that are being observed in various commercial complexes, adding that the ministry will continue to exert efforts in enforcing the law in order to deter irresponsible individuals from committing crimes and violations. Meanwhile, MP Yousef Al-Zalzalah says he considers the increasing phenomenon of violence in Kuwait as a clear indication of people’s lack of respect towards the law and the negligence of the security agencies in enforcing the law, adding that the latest incident in the Avenues Mall is a testimony to the fact. He said he wonders if the government and its security agencies will continue in the same negligent manner, adding that he also wonders if all the stars, crowns and swords on the shoulders of the top security officers are merely for show.
