DBO, KIH match ends in thrilling draw KHK edge KOC-G 1-0

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 10: On Friday Dec 6 two games were played in the Al Yasra hockey league on the Ahmadi grounds. The first match was played between Kuwait Independents Hockey (KIH) & Don Bosco (DBO). The match certainly lived up to its pre-game hype of being a thriller with the unbeaten DBO team taking on the battle hardened KIH. Both teams played some smart hockey with KIH lunching an unrelenting onslaught on the DBO defense. DBO managed to overcome this initial onslaught through some witty defending from their veteran Bruno and workhorse Nixon. DBO then managed to gather themselves and directed by their new recruit Succor were able to extract two quick short corners, but the decent attempts were well cleared by the KIH Goal Keeper Kaniska, following which the first half ended goalless. In the second half KIH lucky striker Savio Mendonca broke the deadlock when he scored a goal from a through pass made by the star center half Samir, thus giving KIH a lead of 1-0 over DBO. This lead was short lived as the KIH defense who had an impeccable game till this point were unable to clear the ball out of the circle and the opportunist DBO striker Philip took advantage to score the equalizer for DBO seconds before the final whistle. The match ended in a draw with both teams sharing the spoils.

The second game of the day was played between KOC Green (KOC-G) and Kuwait Hockey Kings (KHK). The young KHK team spearheaded by Naveed took early control of the game and maintained a relentless attack on KOC-G who were pushed back in defense. KHK soon took the lead when their Star striker Naveed scored the first goal in the 5th minute of the first half. On the other hand the KHK defense denied the repeated attacks by the KOC-G forwards spearheaded by Saqib. KHK ended the first half leading 1-0. In second half both the team kept up their attacking display with the mid field and defenses working overtime however both team missed several opportunities to add to the tally. Young KHK star Yousef son of veteran Wassem Ahmed the vice president of Kuwait Hockey Federation displayed some brilliant skills and the KOC-G defense headed by Mahmood did a good job in stopping the youngsters and keeping down the margin of defeat to 1-0 in favour of KHK.
