Kuwait reiterates vow to eradicate corruption ACA, KTC mark anti-graft day

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 9, (KUNA): The Anti- Corruption Authority (ACA) held on Monday, in cooperation with the Kuwait Transparency Society (KTC), a seminar entitled (Combating Corruption Is a Shared Responsibility) on the occasion of the ‘International Anti- Corruption Day’. The gathering was held in the presence of representative of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al- Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Minister of Communications Issa Al- Kandari. The minister said in his speech that the world is witnessing in this day of every year special anti-corruption celebrations, adding that it is fortunate that Kuwait celebrates this event with the existence of an independent body tasked with combating corruption. He pointed out that corruption is a way to destroy the nations, adding that the political leadership was aware of these risks, thus, prompting it to call for the establishment of a body to combat corruption. He noted the issuance of a bill that has granted the authority full independence and provided it with all terms of reference.

Celebration For his part, Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Authority Adviser Abdulrahman Al-Nimash thanked His Highness the Amir for his patronage, noting that the celebration of the International Anti- Corruption Day observed on Dec 9 stems from the directives of His Highness, who stressed at the opening of the second session of the National Assembly on the need to confront corruption. He explained that corruption in all its forms and types is an undesirable phenomenon for any nation, as its negative effects destroy the political, social and economic development in every country.

For his part, Dr Mubasharor Resident Representative, said in his speech that in Kuwait, the UN Country Team is working to support the implementation of fundamental human rights through development activities designed to, inter alia, promote women’s economic and legal empowerment, facilitate access to education for children with learning disabilities, as well as ensuring a cleaner and safer natural and urban environment for future generations and protect heritage for the benefit of all Kuwaitis.
