INJAZ Al-Arab concludes competition Young Entrepreneurs 2013

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 8: Under the patronage of H.H The Amir, Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah, and in the presence of the guests of honor, His Excellency Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs, Sheikh Salman Al-Homoud Al-Sabah, and His Excellency Minister of Education and Higher Education, Dr Nayef Al Hajraf, INJAZ Al Arab announced the successful conclusion of the 7th annual Young Entrepreneurs 2013 Regional Competition, which was followed by a prestigious awards ceremony held at the Kuwait Regency Hotel, where winning teams were awarded for their outstanding achievements. The INJAZ Al-Arab Young Arab Entrepreneurs Competition was launched in 2007 and is attended yearly by national competition winners from countries across the region.

This year’s competition was the culmination of 90 participating students from Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Kuwait, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, UAE and Yemen. The winning teams of the 7th annual Young Entrepreneurs 2013 Regional Competition included, Mytray company from Bahrain for Best Student Company of the Year for schools category and GEP from Yemen won the same award for universities category, award is sponsored by Gulf Bank, Ebdaa company from Yemen for Student Company with the Best Social Impact Award for schools category, Baader company from UAE for the same award for universities category, Wireless Group from Egypt for the Most Innovative Product award for schools category and the Assurair company from Algeria for the same award for universities category, sponsored by Zain. And last but not least, the FedEx Access Award which was presented to Pentech Company from Morocco.

The competition was judged by Abdulaziz Al-Yaqout, Regional Managing Partner, DLA PIPER Middle East, Dr Claudio Cortese, Senior Deputy Secretary General, Union for the Mediterranean, Omar Fahoum, Chairman & CEO, Middle East, Deloitte & Touche, Omar El Hamamsy, Senior Associate, Manager Egypt Office, Mckinsey, Jeffrey Johnson, President, Boeing Middle East, Mariam Farag, CSR Program Head, MBC Group, Salma Al- Hajjaj, General Manager, Human Resources, Gulf Bank, and Tarek Elrefai, MENA Head of Global Client Management, Bank of New York Mellon. Student companies were assessed on their ability to demonstrate sound business insight, financial knowledge, marketing support and feasibility studies. In addition, competing students were required to spend one day showcasing their products, presenting to the public, and holding a private question and answer session with the judging panel in order to present their business in its entirety.

Soraya Salti, INJAZ Al-Arab Regional Director said: “This event is a celebration of the 360,000 determined young people from across the region that participated in INJAZ programming this year. The participants and winners of the event showcase the collective effort of our volunteers from the private sector, all 9,304 of them, to inspire and to pass on invaluable knowledge. The participants in this competition represent the future entrepreneurs and leaders of the business world. I would like to thank our students for their immense energy and hard work. We are also immensely grateful to His Highness The Amir for his Patronage, the Ministry of Youth Affairs for their tremendous support and to Gulf Bank, Zain, FedEx and Alghanim Industries to their commitment to the region’s youth.” Dr Fawaz Al Husainan - Assistant Undersecretary Ministry of State for Youth Affairs, stated: “The Ministry of State for Youth Affairs was developed with the aim to offer our youth the necessary support that would allow them to unleash their potential and create wonders. We believe that INJAZ’s annual Young Entrepreneurs Competition falls in line with this aim. We are proud to be part of such a life changing program, and we look forward to what the future holds for us as partners”. Rana Al-Nibari, CEO of INJAZKuwait said: “It was a pleasure for INJAZ Kuwait to host the annual Young Entrepreneurs Competition ceremony, one of the key activities conducted by INJAZ Al-Arab on a regional scale.
