Youth burns lab at girlfriend’s behest Furore over cameras

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 3: Police have arrested two youngsters and are looking for a third accomplice for setting fire to a science lab in a high school for girls, reports Al-Anba daily. A security source said according to initial investigations, a female student had a lab test and she called her boyfriend and said she was not prepared to do the test and requested him to do ‘something’ to delay the exam. The youth and his two friends allegedly sneaked into the school and set fire to the lab, causing damage worth KD 10,000. According to security sources the incident happened one month ago and the Mubarak Al-Kabir police managed to solve the mystery after exerting tremendous efforts.

Furore over cameras: The Ministry of Education has begun the installation of surveillance cameras in halls and corridors and in front of the offices particularly in building number (1), which houses the offices of senior ministry officials, reports Al-Seyassah daily. However, those who oppose this call it ‘spying’ under false pretexts but the ministry justified the action saying the installation of the cameras to prevent attacks on the staff and offices. Sources also said the cameras are placed to monitor the activities of journalists and to cut down on their presence anywhere near the ministry, some of whom have already been warned to stay away from building number (1).
