Diarrhea, hepatitis vaccines soon Air ambulance project on track

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 2: The Ministry of Health will offer different vaccines in the coming weeks after completing a study in this regard, including the compulsory vaccinations against diarrhea and hepatitis A, says Undersecretary Dr Khalid Al-Sehlawi. Al-Sehlawi explained some of the vaccines are optional like the one against cervical cancer while the vaccination against smallpox will be available by the beginning of next year. Speaking during the launching of the second pneumococcal vaccination stage as the representative of Health Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al- Abdullah, the undersecretary clarified the pneumococcal germ is regarded as the main cause of death among children below five years old.

He said 20 percent of diseases suffered by children are infectious, adding the vaccination is one of the recommendations presented by the National Committee for Immunization in agreement with the World Health Organization (WHO). He explained the project is aimed at strengthening the immune system of the children in order to protect them from various diseases. In another development, Al-Sehlawi confirmed the ministry has coordinated with its defense counterpart on the implementation of the air ambulance project. He said the airplanes will be delivered upon completion of the supervisory procedures that usually take four to six months.
