‘Labor’ syndicate threatens to halt work at all 3 ports

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 1: The Kuwait Ports Authority Labor Syndicate has threatened to stop work at Shuwaikh, Doha and Shuaiba ports starting from Dec 5 as part of its intention to hold a general strike in case the new insurance contract for employees is not approved. Chairperson of the syndicate Ali Al-Sokoni revealed Minister of Communications Essa Al-Kandari has rejected the insurance contract although all the concerned authorities have endorsed it. He reiterated the operations at the three ports will be paralyzed on Dec 5 — the same day the existing contract expires. He added the ministry officials seem unaware of the importance of the ports and the people assigned there, because they don’t have a clear vision in terms of decision- making.
