Appeals court acquits Filipina jailed in drug trafficking case
KUWAIT CITY, March 17: The Court of Appeals overruled the verdict of the lower court and acquitted a Filipina woman who was sentenced to two-year imprisonment with hard labor for alleged possession of illicit drugs for sale.
Defense counsel Lawyer Abdullah Al-Elanda insisted that his client was in possession of the substance on behalf of another individual and had no intention to sell the substance.
Meanwhile, the Misdemeanor Court presided over by Judge Abdul-Nasser Khuraibit adjourned to May 19 the hearing of a lawsuit filed by the Public Prosecution against 33 Bedouns in order for the verdict of the Administrative Court concerning the Public Gathering Law to be ready for presentation.
According to the case file, the suspects were accused of organizing public protests and attacking securitymen violently. The suspects denied the allegations, arguing that they were only pursuing legitimate demands.
