Salary increase
I would like to explain my problem with the administration of my company. I joined this company as a accounts manager four years ago. During all this period until now, I have not got any raise in my salary. Every time I ask the G.M., the answer is that our company is still not getting any operational revenue from the MEW, but when we start getting this revenue, the company will give the raise to all the staff. I have information, however, that some employees got a raise in their salaries.
Now actually we have started a big contract with MEW but the problem still exists and I don’t see any one from the upper management opening this subject. Some employees with the same career degrees (Managerial degrees) are getting annual air tickets to their mother country but not me although the internal agreements between these employees and the company do not mention such benefits.
I feel this is not right as you know that the living expenses have gone up during this period. My family is living with me in Kuwait & I have 3 children — all in a school.
I would like to know about the following:
l What are my rights if I choose to leave the firm (such as indemnity)
Name withheld
Answer: Unfortunately, there is not much you can do because the law is on the side of the firm, especially since there is nothing mentioned in your contract about any increase in salary or any other benefit.
In such circumstances, the company has the right to chose what benefits it wishes to give and to which employee. You can file a case of discrimination with the court but the process would be long and most likely without any benefit.
So you should again discuss the issue with your firm and if the discrimination continues, you could find a job with another company.
Since you have worked over three years with this firm but less than five years, you are entitle to half your indemnity if you resign plus pay for the balance of your leave.
