PM visits Iraq border ‘Ties strong’
KUWAIT CITY, March 14, (KUNA): HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah accompanied by National Assembly Speaker Ali Al-Rashed took an inspectional tour of the northern borders of Kuwait on Thursday.
HH the prime minister along with others accompanying him, including the Ministry of Interior Assistant Undersecretary for Border Security Maj Gen Sheikh Mohammad Yousif Al-Sabah and senior security officers, were briefed on the security precautions taken along the borders put in place to protect the country from any security breaches.
Also accompanying the prime minister were Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and other ministers.
Sheikh Jaber said that the relationship between Kuwait and Iraq was “too strong to be affected by a number of individuals”, as he expressed hope the Iraqi government would be up to the task of protecting border posts between both countries.
The Kuwaiti prime minister made the comment on Thursday, after being asked about a recent incident whereby a number of Iraqis attacked a joint border post with Kuwait. Sheikh Jaber was attending a luncheon hosted by the Governor of The Capital Sheikh Ali Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah in honour of Kuwaiti cabinet and parliament officials.
