Rules violated in healthcare Focus on minister

KUWAIT CITY, March 11: The Medical Commission for Overseas Treatment had reportedly approved the payment of KD 18,000 to a Kuwaiti citizen for treatment in the United States which he initially carried out at his own expense, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

The man was compensated for the money upon the recommendation of the Minister in concrete violation of the rules and regulations from both sides - the minister and the commission.

According to reports the citizen addressed a letter to the Minister of Health saying he was subjected to a health emergency while he was in the United States (in the State of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia and admitted to the emergency room, and doctors on Jan 5, 2013, decided to do a surgery for the man was suffering from pain due to boils.

The citizen added after completion of the surgery, he had to pay $300 on the first day for bandages and $700 on the following days on the recommendation of the physician.

Knowledgeable sources at the Ministry of Health said the citizen had earlier applied for treatment abroad by it was rejected by the Supreme Committee for Treatment Abroad.

The sources added compensation was approved upon the bills which were submitted by the citizen.
