Expat duo acquitted in drug trafficking charges Dental clinic fined KD 15,000

KUWAIT CITY, March 9: The Court of Appeals has overturned the ruling of a lower court, which had previously sentenced two expatriates to two years in prison with hard labor, and acquitted them of the possession of narcotics for peddling and personal consumption; in addition to money laundering charges.
Court files indicate the investigation report showed that one of the suspects acquired and possessed narcotics for peddling and consumption. After obtaining a search and arrest warrant, a team of officers raided the apartment of one of the suspects who was with his brother — the other suspect. When the officers searched the apartment, they found three huge packs of narcotics, 10 rolls of hashish and KD 1,000 in the possession of one suspect; while the other had one role of hashish. During interrogation, the suspects admitted that the confiscated items belonged to them and the money is part of their earnings from selling hashish. They confessed to purchasing two kilos of hashish, one kilo of which was sold to another suspect who was also arrested in his residence.
Defense lawyer, Abdallah Al-Alanda, demanded for the acquittal of his client due to the questionable arrest procedures taken by the officers and the absence of incriminating evidence.

Dental clinic fined: The Court of Cassation ordered a notable private dental clinic to pay KD 15,000 in compensation to a Kuwaiti woman for damaging her teeth.
On behalf of his client, Attorney Mohammad Zaar Al-Otaibi sued the clinic that examined her teeth and decided the set of teeth needed makeover at the cost of KD 8,000.
The case file indicated the plaintiff agreed to the recommendation and paid the sum, and three months after completing treatment, the pain re-emerged.
As a result, she visited one government hospital and was told some of the teeth have not been treated, while others are damaged.
