Kuwait commited to care for disabled ‘Rights protected’
GENEVA, March 8, (KUNA): The State of Kuwait reiterated Friday its full commitment to abide by the rights of people with special needs and take all necessary measures to empower them as per the Constitution and the international conventions.
“Kuwait upheld the rights of people with special needs with a new law in 2010 which expanded the protection and care services offered to them,” Hana Malik Al-Wazan, advisor to the Kuwait delegation to the UN Office in Geneva, said at a special session at the United Nations Human Rights Council.
She added that the Kuwaiti government prioritizes people with special needs in housing, employment, health and all services and state privileges.
Al-Wazan noted that Kuwait was pioneering in rehabilitating special needs people and providing them with all skills needed to smooth their integration into the society.
She went on to say that “the government is leading an awareness campaign in the private sector about positive discrimination in favor of this segment of the society.”
