Theft, corruption widespread in Kuwait, says Al-Sa’adoun Panel tasked to review offers finalizes work

KUWAIT CITY, March 7: Former speaker of National Assembly Ahmad Al-Sa’adoun has challenged HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, who had recently announced allocation of $125 billion for the next five years, to execute the development plan in line with law 9/2010, reports Al-Kuwaitiah daily.

During a press conference that was held recently at his diwaniya in the presence of some members of the former majority bloc, Al-Sa’adoun spoke about the widespread corruption and theft in the country and affirmed that the members of the former majority bloc are closely monitoring the government’s performance.

He indicated that the executive authority should be questioned and referred to the Court of Ministers over the incident that occurred at the North Zour and over implementation of the remaining projects.
He revealed that the Assistant Undersecretary for Border Security Affairs sent a telex dated 27/8/2009 to the National Petroleum Company regarding the theft of diesel.

He valued the stolen diesel at $2.5 million, indicating that those who stole the diesel stored part of it at Amghara, which was the location where the recent fire incidents took place.

Meanwhile, the committee tasked to review offers to implement the Zour and Subiya power station projects has finalized its work to pave the way for the announcement of the company that will be tasked to establish the stations in order to produce 1,000 megawatts, reports Al-Anba daily quoting sources.
Sources confirmed the committee has submitted the name of the chosen company to the Central Tenders Committee (CTC) to prepare for the awarding of the tender as soon as possible.  Sources added the minister of electricity and water has stressed the need to implement the projects to avoid power shortage in 2014.

In a related development, Assistant Undersecretary for Electrical Transport Network at the Ministry of Electricity and Water Eng Saleh Al-Muslim on Thursday organized a press conference to welcome the visiting delegation from the Qatari Electricity and Water Foundation.

During the conference, Al-Muslim highlighted the power factor experience of the ministry and how it has succeeded in reducing the electrical load on the main stations by 10 to 15 percent.
