No move on expat tax, remittances ‘News’ false

KUWAIT CITY, March 7: Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance Mustafa Al-Shamali has refuted any intention to impose taxation system on the incomes and remittances of expatriates, reports Al-Rai daily.
He stressed that the news published in newspapers in this regard is incorrect, as any matter related to taxes must pass through Ministry of Finance for approval.

He pointed out that several reports are published by the media but not all of them are necessarily true.
Al-Kuwaitiah daily had reported on Wednesday that the Ministry of Finance has started taking the necessary steps to implement the taxation system for residents.

Sources explained that once the system is implemented, the foreigners residing in Kuwait will be required to pay tax on their incomes and remittances.

They said the ministry also intends to lay down a mechanism for limiting the foreign remittances by prohibiting expatriates from remitting more than their monthly salaries as mentioned in their files at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor.
