Domestic residence cancellation

My wife’s mother was with us for the last 3 years on a dependent visa and wife was the sponsor. My wife is working in the Ministry of Health (MoH).
My mother-in-law’s residence was expiring on 9 February 2013 and she told us to not to renew her residence and told us to cancel the residence since she wanted to go back home.
I and my wife went to the Immigration Dept in Farwania on Jan 14, with an application form to cancel her residence. They gave us a one-month temporary residence but did not put the CANCELLED STAMP in the passport nor did they ask for her civil ID. My mother-in-law left Kuwait on Jan 22 and she won’t come back again.
But when I checked the PACI (Public Authority for Civil Information) website it showed that her civil card has expired. It did not say that her residence is cancelled. Now we are doubtful whether her residence has been cancelled in the computer or not.
Will my wife face any problem in the future if my mother-in-law’s residence is actually not cancelled in the computer.

Answer
: From your note it is obvious that your mother-in-law’s residence has not been cancelled.
It seems that the Immigration Dept official misunderstood you and thought that you had come for a temporary residence/extension of your mother-in-law’s residence because it was expiring. So he gave you temporary residence. If the residence had been cancelled he would have asked you to deposit your mother-in-law’s Civil ID at the special PACI counter in the Immigration Dept before cancelling the residence.

But you or your wife don’t have to worry about anything. Once your mother-in-law left Kuwait her temporary residence was automatically cancelled. You also don’t have to worry about the cancellation of the Civil ID card. There won’t be any action against you but we would advise that you keep the ID card because if you ever want a dependent visa again for your mother-in-law , you might be asked to get the ID card cancelled before the visa is issued to you although some departments don’t even care. It won’t be sought if you apply for a visit visa.
