MP stresses need to grill Al-Shamali ‘Minister has failed to deal positively with proposals’
KUWAIT CITY, March 4: MPs Khalid Al-Shlaimi and Tahrir Al-Failakawi stressed the need for implementing appropriate solutions regarding the loans’ interests case, indicating that the government and parliament had agreed to settle this case but the method of applying the solution was different, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
Al-Shlaimi also stressed the need for grilling Minister of Finance Mustafa Al-Shamali, as the latter failed to deal positively with several parliamentary proposals submitted by the lawmakers.
He said the minister refused the proposals of dropping the interests of loans based on the plea that such policy will cultivate an attitude of indifference among the people and will deplete the public funds. He added that the minister demanded referring Central Bank of Kuwait’s former governor to Public Prosecution for showing leniency in monitoring the banks that lent loans easily to citizens.
Al-Shlaimi said he perceived that the parliament succumbed to the government regarding the dropping of loans’ interests, indicating that the legislative authority gave up its role of surveillance on the excuse of pushing the wheel of development forward.
Meanwhile, Al-Failakawi bid granting the government a chance through a proposal submitted by the Parliamentary Finance Committee, explaining that the proposal is aimed to audit all cases and review the violations which the banks committed in terms of commissions and interests, as well as to deposit KD 2,000 to each family to pay their dues to the government.
He lamented that the step of submitting four grilling requests at a time, indicating that the inquests were submitted based on a prior plan.
He said he hoped the lawmakers would refrain from working on their political interests at the expense of the important cases of citizens and nation.
