Probe into Amghara blaze goes on, says KFSD officer Fire stations on standby: Al-Ameer
KUWAIT CITY, Feb 23: Kuwait Fire Service Directorate is continuing on its investigation to determine the cause of fire that broke out in Amghara scrapyard, which took more than 20 hours and many teams of firefighters to extinguish.
In this context, Director of Public Relations and Media at the General Fire Service Directorate Lieutenant Colonel Khaleel Al-Ameer affirmed the fire stations are on standby in anticipation of fire outbreak due to bad weather conditions witnessed in the mornings lately. He also said inspection has been conducted at the scene to ensure the fire is completely extinguished.
Al-Ameer indicated inspection of the scene was conducted in shifts by three fire stations, and investigation is underway by the Investigation Unit of the Fire Directorate, and report will be submitted to the sector’s Director General Major General Yusuf Al-Ansari if investigation is completed.
No casualties in fire: Fire broke out in a prefabricated room within the compounds of a building in Salwa. No casualties were reported but material losses were incurred.
According to sources, when the Operations Room of Ministry of Interior received information about the room on fire in Salwa, firefighters from Mishref Fire Station rushed to the location and extinguished the fire quickly after evacuating the occupants of the building.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
Couple dumps dead baby: An unknown couple dumped the corpse of a newborn baby beside the fence of a mosque at Sulaibikhat Cemetery and immediately fled from the location in a 4WD vehicle.
According to security sources, the caretaker of the mosque was cleaning the rooftop when he witnessed the incident and immediately informed the Operations Room of Ministry of Interior. However, he was unable to note the number plate of the vehicle.
Securitymen from Qairawan Police Station rushed to the location and referred the corpse to Forensics Department.
A case was registered and investigations are ongoing to arrest the unknown couple.
Traffic official wins case: The Misdemeanor Court of Appeals recently upheld the verdict of a lower court, which ruled in favor of Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic Affairs Major General Mustafa Al-Za’abi in a case filed against him by a Kuwaiti woman, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
According to the case files, the woman accused Al-Za’abi of treating her with cruelty and impounding her car for two months.
Sources revealed that Al-Za’abi took tough action against the woman when he noticed her crossing the red signal and endangering lives of other road users.
‘All set for festivities’: Ministry of Interior says it has taken all necessary precautionary measures to organize the National Days celebration, in line with Kuwait’s status.
In a statement, the Director of Public Relations and Moral Guidance Unit Colonel Adel Al-Hashash added the department has prepared a comprehensive media plan that matches the media plan allotted by concerned authorities.
He added implementation of the media awareness plan is corresponding to the directives of the First Deputy Premier, Minister of Interior Sheikh Ahmad Al-Humoud and Undersecretary of Interior Lieutenant General Ghazi Al-Omar.
He indicated a brochure titled “Have your Feast, Kuwait, the Best Country” has been published and distributed to all government authorities, clubs, hospitals and major markets, urging people to collaborate with securitymen and obey instructions for public safety.
Pharmacies shut: Two pharmacies in Hawally were closed down recently for selling antibiotics that failed to meet the required specifications and did not belong to the actual manufacturing company, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting an informed source.
He revealed that a patient went to one of these pharmacies and bought the antibiotic. However, when he discovered that the tablets were coarse and noticed the trademark on the packet was not the same as what he had seen on the original one, he grew suspicious.
He went to a doctor who confirmed to him that the medicine was not genuine and asked him to inform the concerned authorities and the company’s agent.
Sources added that the authorities raided and closed the two pharmacies from where they confiscated large quantities of fake drugs.
Meanwhile, an inspection team from Kuwait Municipality closed down an unlicensed laundry shop located in the basement of a building in Salmiya.
