Casuals outlast Royals in MG Cup league
KUWAIT CITY, Feb 21: Last Friday morning the sun broke over the horizon of Hateen cricket grounds, with an eclectic mix of cricket enthusiasts of varying ages assembled to witness the nail-biting match of the season between Kuwait Casuals and Royal Hateen Cricket Club. For almost 40 years the Kuwait Casuals have keen playing domestic cricket in Kuwait, one of the oldest cricket teams in the Middle East. The team have recently returned from a successful tour of the Gulf culminating in a friendly and highly enjoyable match against Darjeeling Cricket Club, Dubai.
The Casuals, with the continuing generous sponsorship of BD Wealth Management, are nearing the end of the MG Cup league. The MG Cricket Club which was recently formed under the Chairmanship of Mahmoud Abdulla and is geared to take up Kuwait Cricket to a new level in the future.
The tournaments conducted by MG CC are played in the 5 grounds in KABD and 1 ground in Hateen.
The match against Royal Hateen was played in the true spirit of the game; competitive, friendly and good-natured. The Casuals took to the crease first, scoring 157 in 20 overs, with “B-Mac” taking Man-of-the-Match with a half century. Royal Hateen put up a good fight, taking the match to the last over of the game before losing their last wicket just shy of the required total.
The Casuals are hoping to participate in a sixes festival as well as the next MG League starting in March. Matches are on Fridays and training sessions are held on Tuesdays and Saturdays. If you are interested in joining the club then please contact kuwaitcasuals@gmail.com for further information.
